"Caught Up" is a series combining hand-embroidery with produce nets and other packaging that I developed through Undiscovered Countries Blast Off Development Lab in 2019. "Caught Up" refers to my obsession with net materials and how easy it is to get caught up in a cycle of consumerism and waste. As a maker, I struggle with reconciling my desire to create new things with my personal responsibility to reduce how much I consume and put out in the world. These artworks are a physical manifestation of the psychic weight of trash. Some of my compositions imitate nature, while others are rooted in traditional techniques of handcraft. My sewing techniques are an earnest attempt to re-contextualize disposable packaging from "trash" to something value in order to bring attention to its potential, and by extension my potential to harm or heal my environment.
