Anna Hart Turner grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, spending her childhood making art and music and exploring nature. She went on to study Fashion Design at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology before launching her mixed media fiber art practice, Errant Hart, from her Queens apartment in 2016. The name reflects her curiosity-driven approach: ‘errant,’ meaning to wander or seek adventure, and ‘Hart,’ drawn from her middle name, a shortened version of her mother’s maiden name, Hartman.
Launching Errant Hart opened the door to a range of artistic explorations, including teaching hand-embroidery workshops, exhibiting in New York City and Chicago, creating custom watercolor and hand-embroidered portraits, engaging with artistic communities, and vending at art markets.
Now based in Chicago, Anna is an active member of the Chicago Weaving School, where she incorporates unconventional materials such as tree branches, construction nets, and fishing line into her weavings. Her work explores texture, play, and the intersection of craft and improvisation, engaging with themes of consumption, waste, and environmental consciousness.
